Deputy Sheriffs provide and/or supervise law enforcement and protective services under the jurisdiction of the Department of Law Enforcement. The work involves detecting and preventing illegal actions and exercising regular police powers in detaining or arresting individuals engaged in or judged to be involved in illegal activities. Employees are frequently required to use good judgement in anticipating and responding to emergency situations, and in taking appropriate action.

Investigators

The State of Hawai'i hires Investigators in seven departments

Investigators perform investigations concerned with suspected or actual violations of civil, administrative or criminal laws, rules, regulations, or other legal requirements. Investigations are conducted to do background checks, locate missing persons, effect compliance with statutory requirements, follow up on complaints filed by the public, or obtain evidence necessary to defend the State against claims or lawsuits.
